Workplace Attitudes

Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day.” ~Author Unknown.  I chose this quote because of how much it relates to my thought process. Everyday I make people and myself laugh because a day without laughter is a day without happiness in my opinion. Even on the worst day you can find something to laugh at, even if it is yourself.  I am all about being happy. I rarely am mad and as a result of that I am a very happy person. You need to learn how to find comedy in everything and you will feel good all the time. Some people say that happiness is not fair when so many bad things are happening in the world. If you can't be happy then what is the point of even existing. Being happy is different to everyone, but one thing is for sure, which is everyone needs some type of happiness. Comedy is the easiest way to find it in my opinion, so open your comedic side of your mind and laugh a little. You will like the results. COMEDIC.

Bucket Filling

The three strategies that I liked the most in this seminar are make best friends, give unexpectedly, and prevent bucket dipping. When you prevent bucket dipping, you are removing negatives from your bucket. Removing yourself from the situation if it is negative and preventing your bucket from dipping could make your day so much better. Making best friends is a strategy that I really liked. Everything I do in life, I try and make friends with as many people as I can in order to make my days better. It increases your happiness and work efficiency by making friends. Lastly giving unexpectedly is the final strategy. By doing this you are making someone's day by cheering them up. It also makes your day better by giving you a positive in your bucket. I apply all these in my own life every day. I always try to have a smile on my face and make the day better with positive interactions. I relate to this very much and I think it is a good idea to spread these ideas, because they really work.

Essential Question

My essential question is as follows. What does it take to most effectively handle the finances of a client in the sports business? I want to know this specific area of the industry, because I believe that will be the hardest conquer in the obstacles that will arise. It was quite difficult to find one question that I would focus an entire paper on, because it's such a large industry. I am looking forward to getting very specific information on this question and writing a great paper,

Social Innovation Camp

This Wednesday our iQuest class took a field trip to the Social Innovation Camp. This is a camp where wise mentors guide intelligent kids to creating something amazing. I thought this was going to be a boring camp to be honest. Although immediately when I stepped in the door, I knew it was going to be a special experience. We started off by being put into groups. I got put into a group with three monte vista students that didn't know. I was shy and timid at first but as the event progressed we really got to know eachother. We had to create a PowerPoint on an idea or product that we came up with to solve a social issue. We chose the subject of puppy mills. This was a very sad subject that I thought moved some people. We did a great job collaborating and thinking as one. This whole thing reminded me of the movie "The Internship". I got a lot from this feild trip and I wouldn't mind doing it again.

Semester Book

This semester we had to read a book for our iQuest class, and I chose the book Sports Management by Phil Schaaf. This book relates directly to my passion which is sports management. I don't think I could have picked a more perfect book. This book have me an inside look into the vast world of the sports business. There was a lot of detail as to how it started and how it has transformed into one of the largest entertainment industries in the world. There are also many facts on how there are so many businesses that aren't focused on sports but are still connected. All of these aspects of the industry fall right under the area and field of management I am working towards. I see how as a sports manager you need to look everywhere for possible business opportunities or else you won't have success. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in entertainment, management, or just plain sports. Good read.

High School Career / SMART Goals

My experience over the last three and a half years of high school has definitely been a positive. Some people say they hate the environment that high school presents to them, but on the other hand I love that environment. The main reason I have enjoyed this environment, is because Cal High is such a diverse school in terms of the classes, students, and teachers. The diversity of this school has given me a deeper point of view on things like social situations, communications, and outright survival. In my eyes high school is the same as a big city, just to a smaller scale. In a city you need to be able to survive by yourself without the assistance of others and need to be able to adjust to difficult scenarios thrown your way. When you attend such a big school like this then you really learn the skills to survive. I have learned these skills and really tried to work on improving throughout my high school career. I now feel that I am ready to survive in environment. I have learned about a lot of different subjects, and they will be a huge factor in my success. Although in my opinion the most valuable thing that I have taken from school is the life skills. Coming into high school I had the ability to get good grades if I put effort into it, but I had a lack of skills in social situations and mental toughness. I am so thankful for high school allowing me to fix those issues. Now I feel invincible in life.

My first smart goal is to get straight A's in the second semester of my senior year. I made that goal last semester also, but I took on a little bit more than I could handle and didn't accomplish that goal. Now that I have more time, I feel I can actually do it. The people involved will only be me and my teacher. The purpose of this goal is for when my parents talk about high school, I can just say I got straight A's in my last semester. I will continuously check school loop to know where my grades. This goal will be measurable based on the outcome of my final report card. I need to focus in class and have good time management skills to obtain this goal. This is a realistic goal because I have easily done this before. I need to complete this by June, when I graduate.

My second smart goal is to improve my networking skills. The people that I talk to in my internship are involved in this. I will measure the effectiveness of this goal by counting how many contacts I have. I want to have ten times as many contacts at the end of this goal. This is a very attainable goal because my mentor in my internship is showing me how to get this skill. It’s a realistic goal, because I have the proper resources to complete it. I want to finish this goal by the end of next semester.

My third smart goal is to save money from my job. I can measure this by seeing how much money I have at the end of my time table. I can attain this goal by saving two thirds of each of my paychecks. I want to save 2000$ by the end of the year. I want to obtain this goal by the 1st of June.

I think these are really good and obtainable goals.

iQuest Book

For my book that I have to read for iQuest I chose Sports Inc.: 100 Years of Sports, by Phil Schaaf. I will read two chapters a week in order to complete my goal of reading it in five weeks. The main idea of the book is the history of the sports industry, and how it has progressed over the years. So far the book has talked about how the radio and TV were the big turning points for the sports industry. It has also talked about the intensity level in sports and how that has grown in the past hundred years to astonishing heights. The sports industry has grown from small means of pass time, into one of the largest entertainment industries in the world. There was somewhat of a big bang in terms of the industry becoming popular. This was the time when sports teams were putting big money into the sports like any kind of businesses and it worked out. So far this book is very intriguing and I can’t wait to read more about my favorite thing in the world. I like how the book uses plenty of facts to back it up to show real proof of the industry’s growth. I think the author’s goal of the book was to show people how such a successful industry came to be. I want to learn more about this exciting topic.
